Springs on doors from the late 1970s and 1980s were sized for lighter steel doors than what a lot of owners have since installed as replacements. When a heavier insulated door goes on old torsion hardware, the spring is under-sized for the new weight and it fails sooner - that's a pattern we see across the whole 1969-1991 stock in this area, not just here. Cold winters compound it: in this climate band, cold makes steel brittle and grease stiff, so a spring that's already carrying too much load is more likely to snap on a January morning than a July afternoon. With around 1,500 households in Stanford, we're not covering a dense grid of calls the way we might elsewhere, so when a spring goes here it's usually one specific door with one specific mismatch between hardware age and door weight - not a batch problem.
